Anesthesia Options
We want our patients to feel safe, comfortable, and informed throughout their treatment. We recognize that any oral surgery procedure can cause varying levels of anxiety in many patients, and want to make sure we do everything that we can to provide the most comfortable experience possible. We offer several options for anesthesia at Fishbein Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in Vernon, CT to suit our patients’ individual preferences and oral surgery treatment needs. Dr. Fishbein will discuss your customized treatment plan, including your options for anesthesia, and work with you to select the best option.
Fishbein Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery offers several types of anesthesia, including:
- Local anesthesia. This type of anesthesia allows the patient to remain conscious without experiencing any pain associated with the procedure. The anesthetic is directly administered in and around the surgical site for localized numbness. It is commonly used with other anesthetic options, such as nitrous oxide.
- Nitrous oxide. Nitrous oxide (also known as laughing gas) is inhaled through the mouth and nose to help the patient feel relaxed throughout the procedure. It helps the patient feel more at ease, especially if they are nervous about their procedure. Local anesthesia is often used in conjunction with nitrous oxide.
- Intravenous (IV) sedation. A common option for wisdom teeth and dental implant patients, IV sedation allows the patient to enter a sleep-like state for the duration of the procedure. It is a quick-acting medicine because it is administered directly into a vein. Most patients who opt for IV sedation do not remember the procedure afterward, a common side effect.
